Caffeine wakes you up, and there is something incredibly therapeutic about drinking a steaming cup of joy. Does coffee have any health benefits?

There is a greater need for coffee than ever before. Research suggests that you may be getting more from your favorite morning beverage than you thought. Studies suggest that coffee may help protect women against conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and heart disease.

When you think of coffee, the first thing you think about is caffeine. Nutrition experts say coffee also contains antioxidants and other active substances which may reduce inflammation inside the body and help prevent disease. The benefits of your brew go beyond boosting your energy levels.
Your lifespan could be extended.

Coffee drinkers have a lower risk of death from some of the leading causes of death among women, including coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
Sugar (or glucose) may be more easily absorbed by your body.
It's this theory that suggests that people who drink more coffee are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

Your chances of developing heart failure are reduced.
It may be beneficial to drink one to two cups of coffee daily to help prevent heart failure when the heart can't pump enough blood to the body.
You have a lower risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
As well as reducing the risk of Parkinson's disease, caffeine may also help those with the disease better control their movements.
This is good for your liver.
You seem to be able to protect your liver both with regular and decaf coffee. People who drink coffee have healthier liver enzyme levels than those who don't.
It will strengthen your DNA.
Dark roast coffee reduces DNA strand breaks, which naturally occur but can cause cancer if they are not repaired by your cells.
You'll be less likely to develop colon cancer.
Researchers found that coffee drinkers - whether they drank decaf or regular - had a 26 percent lower risk of developing colorectal cancer. By doing so, you may decrease your risk of getting Alzheimer's. Drinking two cups of coffee a day may significantly reduce the risk of developing this disease. Research has shown that older women who drink two to three cups of coffee per day are less likely to develop dementia in general.
Your chances of suffering a stroke are lower.
Having at least one cup of coffee a day might reduce stroke risk in women. Strokes are the fourth leading cause of death in women.
